2. What can I do with the base app?
The base app already comes with enough chords to reharmonize any song. If you want to take full advantage and create very colorful harmonizations then you will need to add-on one the the optional chord packs. The harmonization process is explained in detail in our instructional volume. (175 pages in Volume I of our Adventures in Harmony Course). In using the app to find the correct chord you would simply play the notes on your physical keyboard to complete your harmonization. This app is intended for students who want to learn to play a keyboard instrument and do their own harmonizations. This volume is an excellent companion to the app and is available in full color here or on amazon.com
3. I don't see my in app-purchase?
Whenever you purchase an add-on you must COMPLETELY close down the app and restart. Hitting the HOME button is not enough. When you restart the app you will see your purchase added to the app.
You may then go to the options screen.
1) if you added chords to the app, choose the option "Set Chord Group" and you
will see a list of chord groups that you have added to the app. If you have no
chord groups selected then all chord groups will be enabled. Selecting one or
more chords groups will enabled only those chord groups for your
harmonizations.
2) If you added the CORE MIDI option you will three additional settings on the
options screen.
a) MIDI - turn the CORE MIDI feature on/off
b) Organ Legato -
Turning this feature on will give you a smooth transition between chords.
Notes that are common between two chords are not re-struck. They are
held down just as if you were making a chord change on an organ.
Turning this feature off will cause all notes to be re-struck between chord
changes.
c) MIDI transpose 0-6
This control the octave offset that MIDI notes are sent. Each number will
transpose all notes an octave at a time. If the notes are too high or too low
on your MIDI device, you may use this setting to raise or lower the chords
an octave at a time.
1. How come I have no sound?
You must connect the app to a MIDI Keyboard or MIDi software with MIDI Cables. The sound will come from your MIDI Keyboard or any software that will produce sound when receiving MIDI over the MIDI cables. There are apps in the AppStore that you can download to your iphone/ipad that will give our app sound without MIDI cables. See the Core MIDI Page for details.
Or you can purchase a MIDI interface that will connect your iphone/ipad/ipod to a MIDI capable sound device. We use the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer II. You must also purchase the MIDI option for this app available as an in-app purchase for $9.99.
It was never the intent for this app to have any sound capabilities. This app is a digital version of the voicing reference Volumes in the Adventures in Harmony Course. We have over 100,000 students learning harmony with our course. Students will use the Harmonizer to find chords that they wll play on their actual instrument. Most of our students already have a keyboard and they will connect the app to their existing keyboard and use the built-in sounds on their keyboard.
